What's truth got to do with it? - August 7, 2008

Hi all,
I have been sitting here trying to come up with an opening to this entry. Something happy, and personable. Something that makes you want to buy my music on itunes or just about any other downloadable service out there. That's my plug.
A fraction of me wants to write about all the R&B-ish stuff I've been writing and compiling. However, the most nagging thing I want to talk about is the truth. I don't mean run of the mill every day truth. I mean THE TRUTH! The shit you only see in movies, but has become an American reality truth.
There are not enough people in this country who care about the (here comes a good 'c' word) corruption in this administration. I know something about denial, but come on! We the people are beyond apathy. We friggin blew past denial, we're in full blown refusal. We won't spill into the streets to protest a meaningless war. We won't insist that this administration be held accountable, responsible.
Yes! I point the finger along with a few others. We can't help but shake our heads in disbelief. What's surreal is that half of us Americans insist that the other half is just seeing things when KIng Kong really IS sitting in the room.
We are beyond cllche's. No man is above the law--my ass. As if. I'd like to see any of you shrug off congress like Harriet Meyers, Michael Bolten, KARL ROVE. Executive privilege for what? So that the president and his minions can commit any crime, and none of them have to ever be accountable because the president said so. So there!!
Who cares? Not Nancy Palosi, or Harry Reid, or Bob Barr (he cares, but not enough to pursue the impeachment of Bush and Cheney like he pursued Clinton for lying about sex under oath. Barr cares enough to make it a leg to run for the presidency on--prick).
Only a few politicos really care, but they are out numbered and considered to be the far far radical left.

What the hell...! - April 16, 2007

OK. I really got into the Anna Nicole Smith saga for a couple of reasons. One: I thought it was messed up that Smith fled to the Bahamas to avoid establishing paternity. I have always been interested in father's rights, so I was curious as to how it would turn out. It must suck for men that by nature women hold all the power in that regard. Imagine if the mother of your child was a junky, and she split to a foreign country to avoid establishing paternity, and to keep the child away from you once it was born. I can feel for any guy who's getting played like that. Women need to be responsible, and not use our potential to mess with a man's mind. That was just nasty.
Then when her young son Daniel died mysteriously my heart ached for Smith. As a mother I could empathize with the anguish she must have felt. How terrifically marred the joyous event of her daughter's birth.
OK there is a third reason, and that was when Smith died! That was all too much, and definately piqued my curiosity about Howard Stern.
Fourth (I know. I know.): All the legal proceedings (which I love) and once again precedences were historicly set because of the convoluted decisions made by an addict.
Fifth: As alittle girl, the story of Rumplestiltskin scared the crap out of me. I was begining to think that Smith must have promised one of her unborn children to Stern as tightly as he's been clutching to a child that he knew was not his (he knewwww). Reminds me of one of those baboons who'll snatch a baby for their own protection--fangs exposed and aimed toward the small head as the real father tries anything, even submitting to get his infant back.

How could there be so much sensless killing--the VA Tech massacre today is just a drop in the world wide bucket of blood. How many in Darfur? How many in Iraq or Afghanistan? How many Russian spies?

We sure don't have many liberal touchy feely Kumbaya types calling the shots most parts of the world (no pun...). How long will it take for us to evolve to a higher state of understandng? We don't have that kind of time.

Are there so few who can govern without taking things personally. Is it true that the most aggressive rise to power? Are these the dog eat dog type? If so, then how could they not continue to be that? So self serving in the end.

We have the best military crap! The coolest boss ass throw down crazy stuff! Vehicles that can and do withstand those horrible road bombs (LCDs thanks via Iran--from Russia with love--pay backs a what? Back in the day of Osama's boot in Afghanistan--ala' "I want to live in America")! I guess they're pretty expensive, but no sparing a thing to support our troops right? Right? We want to protect them right? Isn't that right? Yeah right (heavy sigh).

What planet does Cheney live on? Maybe he needs medication because he seems dillusional. He's gone from a paranoid state ranting on about weapons of mass distruction in Iraq to feelings of grandiosity and denial that things are so much better there now that he's messed with it. He's confused the war with his war profits. Maybe whatever afflicts Cheney has infected John McCain too. He seems to exhibit some of the same schizophrenic symptoms.
Maybe the gal that gave so many Rxs to Anna and Howard can help these guys with some anti-psychotic meds. Quell the voices in their heads--send some to Bush while your at it, but even he seems to be more aware of reality then Cheney.

Resolve - January 3, 2007

To Whom it may concern,
I never think that anyone really wants to hear what I have to say about any given issue. Last year I sent out a political e-mail. I recieved one kind of crazy mad response, and one person who asked to be removed from my e-mail list. I have not sent another since, but not because of these two people. It's only because of the afore mentioned--who cares what I think? I suppose many of us feel like I do, and maybe we don't want to have those kinds of discussions. Maybe we don't want to know if we dis-agree with each other.
My resolution this year is to let you all know where I stand as an individual. Here are a few things that might interest you, or not.
To start with:
I am pretty much a democrat. Does that make my Republican friends and fans feel differently about me as a person or an artist? I hope not, but there you have it. Does it make any difference to me that any of you are Republican? I did not care before, but now I do.
I just want to say to those of you who voted for Bush the first time--I forgive you that mistake. But you voted him in a second time even though he lied to us about WMD. You supported him even though he violated international law--our laws against pre-emptive war. You voted him in even though he had a "secret program" to spy on us. You looked away from the "no bid" government contracts with Halliburton, and cast your vote in favor of "stay the course" A.K.A. "more of the same". OK you did it for your party. You did it because you were afraid of what it might be like if we had a Democrat in the White House during war time. Whatever your reasons were, I believe that you, my fellow Americans, had this nations best interests at heart. This is the Republican party, and now I am calling on all of you to get us out of Iraq. Bush is planning to send 20,000 more troops in spite of what the people say. He really doesn't care about polls--in other words he doesn't care what you--the people who put him into power want--after all he is the self proclaimed almighty "decider". He thinks he knows better than his Commanders--shoot he thinks he knows better than any of us. According to him, the American people just don't and can't understand the complexities of this war like he does.
Until recently, your politicians especially your President have gotten away with misusing their power. They should be the sum of the people, and not the other way around. In other words--you have been used.
Is this what you bargained for? Look at the spending this guy did so far. Is this what you voted for? As Republicans, surely you feel betrayed. I'm mad about it even if you're not. You are my countrymen! I don't want you to be taken advantage of any longer, so I must reach out to you.
I may be preaching to the choir at this point because from the results of this last election many of you are fed up with the lies and incompetence in the White House too, and now more than before, Republican politician's support for this President has wained because thier constituants made them very afraid to continue to do so. We've gone after the wrong enemy--continue to squander our most prescious of resources--our people! I don't know what the numbers are, but I would wager that most of the young men and women who are dying are Republicans. It is too great a sacrifice. I can't be silent about this. I beg all Republicans to continue to put pressure on your congressmen and on your fellow Republicans. Let's not make the mistake of continuing to fund this ill begotten war--this quagmire, this nightmare.
I am a conservative liberal which means that if the Republican party were more compassionate I might vote that way. Not compassionate like George W. He's just fool hardy, and too acustomed to spending someone elses money.

Like republicans, I'm for lower taxes, and fiscal resposibility I'm against big government, but in favor of a healthy budget for a strong military force, but not to squander it away in Iraq.
I am for bigger budgets to better education, and helping the poor too.
I am not for subsidizing big business, and I am horrified about the outsourcing of our jobs to slave labor. This started with the Clinton administration.
I am for controlling the border. I believe that the influx of illegal immigrants has directly affected the decline of good wages, and contributed to the further weakening of our labor unions. This is just one of the many reasons that profits for big business by and large are way up--I guess that's what Bush means by a stronger economy.
I am baffled at the indifference that the former Congress and this administration have displayed by their cold hearted ability to vote the minimum wage down while Congress secretly gives themselves raises, and while this President secretly sells off our ports and cuts deals with foreign countries disguized as business handlers, and allows war profiteering.
I want the government Out! Out! Out! of my bedroom and out of my conversations and correspondences with anyone for any reason via any method I choose.
I am not for torture for God's sake! I was crushed when John McCain rolled over (no pun intended), so that this President can have his sticky hand in making history by re-writting the international law that we forced the rest of the world to accept--such hypocrites are we!
I am for seperation of church and state.
I am for stopping global warming, and using alternatives to oil. I am for serious reform on this front.
I am not for spreading democracy around the world, though it frightens me that Communism is in our back yard with Venezuela leading the anti-American sentiments. Isn't that why we were in Vietnam? To stop the spreading of Communism, so that we would not have to fight them over here in the Western Hemisphere? Wow! Talk about your deja vu! I guess we were just "spinning our wheels" on the heads of our soldiers who fought and died for the then important cause of the day.
I call on all my fellow Americans whatever your party, to stop the nonsense now! I am writing my Congress people to stop the blood let out of America's gaping throat. We desperately need a tourniquet. I am calling on the majority rule to be strong enough to do the right thing even though they will surely be called unsupportive of our troops, and worse.
I won't be detoured from speaking my mind by bully tactics.
I am an American. I was born that way. My roots stretch way far back in history on this continent of North America--I am Native and European descent.
We bury our 38th President this week. He was an honorable man by all accounts. He's been hailed for pardoning Nixon--thanked for sparing this country the anguish and embarrassment and expense of prosecuting a president who commited real crimes while in office. Appreciated by some of the very same people who in turn and with such venom, wasted money and energy on what was nothing more than a sex scandle. These are the same people who now encourage Congress to look the other way, and to spare us all the trouble of independent investigations into the potential crimes committed by our current President. I wish that they'd had the restraint then to do what they would have Democrats do now--walk away from it all like President Ford did. If no one in this prestigious office of the executive branch is held accountable for anything except lying about sex--then we say it's OK to lie to us about everything else. It's OK to lead the American people into war based on spin. It's OK to secretly torture. It's just fine to secretly spy on American Citizens and then in hindsight, write laws to support crimes already committed because The People found out.
I believe it takes courage and strength to do what is hardest, but what is right.

I am happy to inform you that my long awaited CD "30 miles" was released on September 5th. I am thrilled about the final outcome and the support it has recieved so far. For those of you who've already purchased the CD--thank you. For those who would like to purchase the CD please go to CD baby.com.
It will be on Itunes!, Weed, and other digital distributors in the near future.
The Holiday season is just around the corner, so check out "Better Than Christmas", the CD that Don Grusin and I did last year. It is comprised of original tunes as well as traditional. It's cheaper to get the whole album at ITunes, but then you don't get the insert with the artwork that I designed myself.
Check out the calander--hope I get to sing for some of you soon.
Peace Out

What a whirlwind of a month, and it's almost over. How quickly time passes.
A note to Alma Benavides, Robert Benavides' wife ( from the Satisfaction Band).
My condolences to you and your family for the loss of your loved one, Victor Hernandez.
May you have a beautiful afternoon when you gather together this coming Sunday on the ocean.
I wish all of you peace.

We had a great weekend! - April 18, 2006

What a great weekend! We had a blast!
On Friday we were at La Barca. It is such a nice place. They are paying attention to detail, and have such a nice staff. I love all the room for seating, and they serve good food, and drinks too. I was with Satisfaction, so we packed the floor. I wish La Barca all the best. They are such nice people--classy too!
Thank you Jaime Gonzales, and Larry Sanchez for your help with the sound! Jaime, you are so supportive of me, and have become such a good friend.
Larry--your talent is not lost on this singer. I look forward to working with you soon!
Original Mike's is a neat place to go in Santa Ana. It has several rooms each with it's own unique ambiance. It's quirky and fun!
Promoter Jerry Garcia had us open for in Malo who was great! Their fans were so kind to us! Larry Salas mixed the sound that night, and did a great job! Thanks Larry for your professionalism.
We met many wonderful people who bought my CD as well as Satisfaction's. We sold out! Thanks to all of you for your support. As a song writer, it means the world to me when people like what they hear enough to put their hands in their pockets, and take me home with them. It is my hope that my songs have a permanent place in your hearts.
Thank you Maria Valencia for running back and forth to get our CDs to all those who wanted to purchase them. I dreamed of your rhinestone clad feet--a sparkling blur from the stage. Was that a repeat of the night before, or a premonition of something great to come?
Peace!

"30 miles"/"Geography" - April 4, 2006

Don and I are finishing up my new CD entitled "30 Miles". We will release it on my little label (Nati Records Inc.) this September. Be on the look out.

Also, check out Don Grusin's newest CD that he did with the UK's famous Bill Sharp from "Shakatak" called "Geography". It is great! Get it at dongrusin.com.

I have been working with a great little group called "Satisfaction". It is a top 40 cover band. I have never done this kind of thing before, but I am having a blast with these wonderful people!
